(Warm – Up: Writing Prompt)
Prompt 1: If you could choose any animal for a class pet, what would you choose and why?
Prompt 2: Most people like certain animals more than others. What is your favorite animal and why is it your favorite?
Prompt 3: Pretend you have been chosen to become an animal for a day, what animal would you be and why?

Learning Target: I can read informational books with an author’s eye, thinking about all the decisions the author makes and learn how to write a nonfiction book using expository writing.

Vocabulary: expository

Instructional Input: Review the writing process and the steps it takes to publish a book.

Guided Practice: Meet and confer with students individually to improve writing.

Independent Practice: Send the students back to their seats. Walk around and observe the students as they work on completing the assignment. Monitor the students as they work, making sure the sentences are done correctly. Answer any questions students may have to help them clarify any misconceptions they may have.
