Returning to the self-contained classroom
After being out of the self-contained classroom for almost 10 years. I decided to go back again. Our district recently rezoned and now they will no longer send students to other campuses for specialized classes. Now each campus will have a sister campus and they will service all their students needs in their campus. I thought about it - and decided it was time to return to my students who have special needs and rights. I am looking forward to this new change and having a classroom family again.
I am slowly putting together a mental picture of what my classroom will look like. I think that the class is going to be somewhat large and space will definitely be an important part. Lighting and openness are important to me. I would like the room to feel open with a welcoming vibe, not to stimulating since most of my students will be sensitive to their environment around them. Therefore, my plan this year will be to go with a natural theme. I have already created an Amazon wish list and pinned lots of ideas from Pinterest.
