Classroom Manners
Classroom Manners
Sometimes students
need a reminder to be nice to each other. Especially if you have a classroom
that likes to bicker with each other. Students want to feel safe and loved – in
the younger elementary age they are very sensitive to what others say and do.
In my classroom I
like to review our respect agreement and what that looks like. What does it
look like and sound like for a student to respect another student? What does it
look and sound like when a student respects the teacher?
Students need to
build an awareness of right and wrong! When making good choices we have a happy
heart (intrinsic motivation) – we look inward.
One thing I like to do is draw a big heart on the board or
chart paper and review polite words with my students.
I then ask the students what are some words we can say that show good manners? How can we be good role models? Also remind students that it's important to use your words, not your hands.
