Texas Performance Standards Project provides a set of
performance standards, projects, and assessments for teachers that include
differentiated instruction and enhance students' academic learning specifically
targeting G/T learners.
Through the website teachers have access to a variety learning
projects/tasks, assessment rubrics, guide to success, and sample forms in various
subjects. Teachers can search for a specific topic or select their grade level
then browse the task options. It is a great resource to have. I chose “Everybody
on the move!” as my topic of choice due to it being cross-curricular for math
and science, and that is what I will be teaching this school year.
First, I would start the year out with what research is (giving examples; poster, power point presentation etc.) – then when I can see that they understand what research is move on to introducing a lesson. I think the first research project could be done as a class or in groups – then eventually moving to independent learning depending on the students’ needs. I would start out with a KWL chart on “Physical Fitness”. The Lesson has two phases: Phase I (Learning Experiences) and Phase II (Independent Research).
