Ways to enhance teacher-led stations

Is to first of all set expectations! There are many resources ideas – one that I thought was helpful was a diagram created by Catlin Tucker on 5 ways to design stations, link here: 5 Ways to Design Your Teacher-led Station - Dr. Catlin Tucker. I love the idea of adding homework check & review in every day. I have been cramming them all on Fridays at the end of class and basically just rewarding them for doing it. I think reviewing one per day during class would be more meaningful and a great way to review previous topics learned.

I also liked the idea of optimizing station rotations as stated in the article here: Optimizing Station Rotations in Blended Learning | Edutopia by implementing student partner collaboration. It helps students solve problems and develop better communication habits. But I also think for this one- students will need to be closely monitored because sometimes they think helping each other is giving your partner all the answers. We don’t want that to happen.

The third link I reviewed was a video by a 4th grade teacher here: https://youtu.be/iB4xVFb57nY?si=0p5TLslP7YLCFbLN She mentioned that when dealing with station rotations you become more of a guide and students more independent. She also stated that with station rotations and student collaboration the classroom is not quiet and can get a little noisy. For some teachers that would take some getting used to. She broke her stations down into three categories: Direct/ Independent / and Collaboration.
