Instructional Input: What do you notice about the abbreviations? An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word. Aug. is the abbreviation of the word August. *If a word should begin with a capital letter, the abbreviation must also begin with a capital letter. *
Most abbreviations end with a period.

Guided Practice: Introduce students to common abbreviations and add them to the Word Work journal.
